Over these years the Georgia office has implemented a number of patient-oriented projects in the context of diagnostics and accessibility. The company also has greatly contributed tthe continuous medical education of healthcare specialists.

The most important diagnostic project – introduction and implementation of EGFR testing was for lung cancer patients in Georgia, in the form of support to patients’ organization – in particular projects implemented jointly with Europa Donna: from donation of medical products to a psychotherapy course. Worth mentioning is the company’s support to patients with rare diseases.  – the company has made a real progress in this area – iInnovative preparations have been created for seven rare inherited disorders with five of them authorized. Hypophosphatasia –  a genetic, chronic, progressive and life-threatening metabolic condition is one of the disorders. The Representative Office of AstraZeneca cooperated with doctors from Iashvili Clinic to help a 7-year-old patient with hypophosphatasia. With global access to medications program all clinical criteria were met and a complete treatment course with the innovative preparation STRENSIQ was fully financed for the patient. Treatment of the patient is still ongoing. It should be mentioned that the drug demonstrated high efficiency and safety.

Promoting diagnostics and early detection of diseases is continuously ongoing. Currently, the company has two projects; screening for heart failure and chronic renal failure, which include financing appropriate tests and donating test systems.

AstraZeneca Georgia, as a company with high corporate responsibility, does not only create high-quality medications for patients but also cares for the environment and sustainable development as well. As part of the company’s Green Initiative, the company planted saplings at a number of public places. In October this year, with support from Rustavi City Hall, AstraZeneca selected and purchased 20 saplings appropriate for the local climate for a Rustavi kindergarten.

AstraZeneca joined the 0% carbon campaign of Georgia. The company vehicle fleet has been 100% green since 2022 (only hybrid models). Transferring to fully electric models is planned by the end of 2025.

AstraZeneca’s corporate responsibility was high during the pandemic as well. Globally, it was the company’s initiative to promote vaccine production and increasing its accessibility without commercialization. AstraZeneca was the first company to join the COVAX platform. Georgia was among the first countries to receive the vaccine from COVAX; the company gave over 5000 medical masks to the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health.

During the pandemic the representative office of AstraZeneca did everything to prevent delays in continuous supply of vital medications by the company. This was carried out while maintaining the safety of its employees. Official meetings were quickly and efficiently transferred to a remote mode.
