The First Working Meeting of the Decent Work Action Platform
The first working meeting of the Decent Work Action Platform was organized by the UN Global Compact Network Georgia, with financial support from Sweden.The working meeting focused on eliminating discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
The participants were addressed by Nino Kvantrishvili, Deputy Executive Director of the UN Global Compact Network Georgia. Following this, Akaki Kukhaleishvili, Business and Human Rights Manager of the network, briefed the participants on the Decent Work Action Platform and the upcoming events scheduled within it. Ana Kvatchadze, Acting Head of the Equality Department at the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia, then spoke about the Public Defender’s role as a national mechanism for combating discrimination. At the meeting, Maka Bochorishvili, Environmental, Social, and Governance Coordinator at TBC Bank, and Ana Osadze, Head of ESG & Sustainability at Bank of Georgia, provided insights from the private sector perspective. This led to a fruitful discussion among the participants.
In 2024, UN Global Compact Network Georgia will run 4 peer learning groups on Decent Work Action Platform:
1. The elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation;
2. Occupational Safety and Health;
3. Living Wage;
4. Child Labor;
Each workshop is designed to include various experts, with representatives from member companies of the UN Global Compact network Georgia also participating as speakers to share their experiences. Significant time during the meetings will be allocated to discussions, providing participating companies with the opportunity to share their experiences.
The objective of the Decent Work Action Platform, initiated by the UN Global Compact Network Georgia, is to assist businesses in adopting best practices for upholding decent labor standards.
