United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) of the State Parties (COP28) in Dubai

During the week of December 2-8, 2023, UN Global Compact Network Georgia (UNGCNG) Executive Director Salome Zurabishvili and Deputy Executive Director Nino Kvantrishvili participated in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) of the State Parties (COP28), in Dubai.

During COP28, more than 70,000 delegates elaborated on ways to address the climate crisis, including discussions on limiting global temperature rise to 1.5 degrees Celsius, helping vulnerable communities adapt to the effects of climate change, and achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.

Salome Zurabishvili, the Executive Director of the network, moderated an event titled ‘Building Business Resilience through Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Strategies,’ organized by the UN Global Compact Network Ukraine. She also moderated a second event focused on Science Based Targets (SBTi) Leading Companies, which was organized by the Spanish Network.

Within the framework of the working visit, the delegation participated in high-level meetings and events: Caring for Climate, SDG Investment Forum, Women Participation in Climate Action and Sustainable Development, and World Climate Summit. During the visit, possibilities of Georgian business representatives’ participation in the next COP was explored.

COP28 was attended by the member states (or Parties) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), Business leaders, climate scientists, and representatives of the international and civil society organizations.

The working visit was organized by the UN Global Compact Network Georgia with support from the Swedish Government.
