International Conference – Ambitious Agenda Toward EU Accession: Public Procurement Transformation of Georgia

On September 28, from 10:00 to 18:00, at the Sheraton Grand Tbilisi Metechi Palace Hotel, the State Procurement Agency of Georgia and UN Global Compact Network Georgia, with the support of Swedish Government, organized an International Conference, ‘Ambitious Agenda Toward EU Accession: Public Procurement Transformation of Georgia’.

The conference gathered high-level international experts in public procurement, government officials, members of parliament, representatives from international financial institutions and organizations, and diplomats, who shared the best international practices and discussed the transformation of public procurement in Georgia.

Throughout the event, experts from international financial and development institutions, regulatory bodies, and policymakers discussed topics such as innovation, competitiveness, sustainability, and regulation in public procurement. Particular attention was given to Georgia’s international commitments, the newly adopted Public Finance Management reform strategy, the introduction of Green Public Procurement practices, and the challenges faced by the State Procurement Agency in aligning with EU regulations. Representatives from the EU, OECD, and WTO institutions and bodies also shared best international practices.

On February 9, 2023, the Parliament of Georgia passed a groundbreaking new Law on Public Procurement, marking the beginning of a new era for Georgia’s government procurement reforms agenda.
