Meeting for Representatives of State-owned Enterprises
On April 10, the UN Global Compact Network Georgia, with the financial support of Sweden, hosted an information meeting for representatives of state-owned enterprises. The session focused on promoting the implementation of business and human rights principles within these organizations.
Salome Zurabishvili, the executive director of the UN Global Compact Network Georgia, explained the network’s mission and activities to the attendees, emphasizing the significance of adhering to business and human rights principles. The participants of the meeting were addressed by Mariam Begoidze, the head of the Strategic Development Department of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia. The second part of the meeting was devoted to the review of the guideline prepared by the UN Global Compact Network Georgia on the respect of human rights by state-owned enterprises, which was led by Akaki Kukhaleishvili, the business and human rights manager at the UN Global Compact Network Georgia.
Under the Association Agreement with the European Union, Georgia has committed to increasing awareness of the OECD guidelines on responsible business conduct. Since 2016, business and human rights issues have been included in all human rights action plans. Today’s event was conducted as part of the activities included in the 2024-2026 action plan.
