Visit in Brussels

On April 20-24, 2023, Executive Director of UN Global Compact Network Georgia (UN GCNG), Salome Zurabishvili, and Senior Manager of Sustainability and Partnerships, Nino Kvantrishvili, paid a working visit to Brussels and held consultations with the representatives of the European Commission, European Parliament, Embassy of Georgia to the Kingdom of Belgium and Mission of Georgia to NATO.

During the working visit to Brussels UN GCNG delegation held meetings with the office of MEP Marketa Gregorova, the Human Rights Section of the European Parliament’s Democracy Support Directorate, the Eastern Europe Section, the Parliamentary Support and Capacity Building Section, and the Human Rights Subcommittee. In the European Commission, meetings were held with the Policy Officer of the Directorate-General for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship, and Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises, as well as with the Policy Officer of the General Directorate for Climate of the European Commission.

During the meetings, parties emphasized the role of the private sector of Georgia in achieving SDGs and Georgia’s European and Euro-Atlantic integration process; Possibilities to organize visits of Georgian companies with high corporate responsibility to get acquainted with various directives and laws of the European Union and European Parliament were also discussed. Particular emphasis was paid to the successful projects of the local network in terms of popularizing corporate sustainability in the country.

As a result of the working visit in Brussels, UN GCNG pinpointed activities that will enhance the capacity of the Georgian private sector and their approximation with European institutions and contribute to the effective fulfillment of the obligations assumed by the association agreement on the part of the private sector. UN Global Compact Network Georgia organized the working visit with the Swedish government’s support.
